IPEDS Completions survey component information and glossary
The IPEDS Completions is one of several IPEDS survey components that is conducted during the Fall data collection period. It collects the number of degrees and certificates awarded by field of study, level of award, race/ethnicity, and gender. The reporting period for the Completions component is during the 12-month time period and begins July 1 and ends June 30 of the following year.
Field of study is categorized according to the 2020 Classification of Instructional Programs (CIP) detailed coding system for postsecondary instructional programs. The 2010 CIP was used to categorize programs for Completions data collected from 2009-10 through 2018-19. Awards conferred exclude second majors, post-baccalaureate certificates and post-master's certificates
Beginning in 2019-20, the less than 1 year certificate award level includes certificates of less than 12 weeks and certificates of at least 12 weeks but less than 1 year.
